About Us

Grove Junior School is a co-educational community day school which caters for pupils aged 7-11 years. The school is situated in Northwood, a residential area on the outskirts of Hanley, and serves a wide and diverse catchment area, encompassing the local communities of Northwood, Birches Head and parts of Hanley itself.

There are approximately 365 pupils on the school roll.

The school has 15 full-time teachers, as well as the Headteacher,  Support staff including Administrative staff, Classroom Support staff, Lunchtime Supervisors, Catering Staff, Cleaning Staff and Premises Staff.

The school is housed in spacious buildings, mostly of late Victorian vintage. The building presently comprises: entrance area and offices, 14 classrooms, cloakroom areas, art and resource room, library, purpose built ICT room, main assembly hall, and separate gymnasium, changing rooms, dining room, community room and staffroom.

Outside there is a large L-shaped playground, which now has new equipment for the children to play on.

The school also has regular use of excellent sports facilities nearby at Northwood Stadium, Hanley Forest Park and Fenton Manor Swimming Baths.

The school seeks to contribute to the preparation of young people for life in a modern, technological and multi-cultural society. Our intention is to build upon the foundations for learning laid in the home and at nursery and infant school, and to equip children for the challenges of secondary education.

Our philosophy is based upon the belief that all pupils are of equal value, and that each should be offered equal opportunities at school, free from any bias due to an individual's academic or physical ability, colour of skin, race, religion or gender.
