We are delighted to be able to offer the pupils of Hufflepuff JS and Hufflepuff CC an out of academy visit to the Dewa Roman experience in Chester on Thursday 5th March to support their current learning. This is an exciting visit where the children will find out all about what it was like to live during Roman times. They will complete a fully guided tour of the Roman reconstructions, excavations, museum and the award-winning hands-on room where they will learn about topics such as; Roman food, health, hygiene as well as getting chance to look at real, Roman artefacts. Also, armed with battle shields and under the ‘strict’ instruction of one of the experienced legionaries, the children will discover what it took to become part of the greatest fighting force the world has ever known as they visit the Roman walls and amphitheatre of Chester. They will even get the chance to experience preparing for real battle!

To allow us to get the most from the visit, pupils will need to be at Grove Academy at 8.50am prompt. We anticipate that we will return back to the academy at 3.45pm but will communicate with you via text if there are any changes to this.  All pupils are expected to wear full academy uniform and suitable footwear and weather appropriate clothing (including a coat). All pupils must bring a healthy packed lunch (please remember no glass bottles, fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate) in a named, disposable carrier bag so that all rubbish can be disposed of at lunchtime. However, if your child is currently entitled to a Free School Meal, a packed lunch will be provided. Children will be responsible for carrying their own belongings throughout the day. As there is a small shop on site, children will be allowed to bring spending money of no more than £5.00 in a zipped wallet/purse (the children will look after this and the academy accept no responsibility for any losses).

The cost of this visit is £14.15 per child. Payment is required by Monday 24th February via ParentPay. You will need to consent for your child to attend the trip via ParentPay and also provide details of an emergency contact and any medical or dietary requirements/information, including travel sickness – this information will need to be completed by Monday 24th February, so that the necessary paperwork can be completed, allowing a member of staff to administer any medication required.
