Write a letter to your new class teacher including any questions you may have for them. Is there anything you want to know about next year? Are you wondering what topics you will be covering? Are you worried about anything? Tell them how you are feeling about your new class. What are you really looking forwards to and excited about?

This can be completed on purple mash or hand-written on paper and send a picture to Class Dojo.

Potteries Bottle Oven Day – 29th August 2020

Potteries Bottle Owen Day is an annual celebration of bottle ovens in Stoke-on-Trent and to celebrate there is a competition for a chance to appear in an exhibition at Gladstone Pottery museum.

Create your own bottle oven themed art work using crayons, paints, card etc.

Today we are going to start looking at angles. Watch the video on Class dojo to begin with.  Here we will introduce 3 different angles, right angle (90°), obtuse (angles between 90° and 180°) and acute (less than 90°).   Then complete the activity on Purple mash.   Here you will be able to show that you have understood the 3 different types of angles.

This week we are going to complete another art project.  This week we will focus on drawing insects. Today’s lesson is about drawing insects with pencil.  Look at the images on purple mash of different insects.  Look at how the body is made up of 2D shapes.  Look at the lines, and detail on the insect.

The more you look at the image the more detail you will see.  Draw an observational image of your insect using pencil.

Today we are going to look at comparing and ordering angles.   Watch the video on class dojo.  Here we will look at looking at with angles are bigger or smaller than other angles.  Remember angles are made when 2 lines meet.  Continuing from yesterday you should be able to group angles into right (=90°), acute (>90°), obtuse (<90°).   Complete the activity on purple mash.

Today’s lesson we will learn to draw an insect using colour. You will create an imaginary insect and colour it in using pencil crayons.   You could create a name for your new insect.

 Practical activity

Cut up some squares of coloured paper or magazine.  Lay the squares on top of your insect to create a mosaic effect.  Remember to fill in all the space including the background.

 Practical activity

Using pencil tone, draw a flower from observation. Look at the outline of the shape and how it is made up of smaller sections as well as the close up details within each part of the flower and its leaves. Is everything the same size and facing the same direction or is each component different? Use a mixture of shading techniques to add shadows, highlights and textures to focus on trying to make your flower appear 3 dimensional and as realistic as possible. Press on harder with your pencil for darker tones and lighter for areas that are brighter. If it helps, use a drawing grid to help you with the positioning and proportion of your composition. Look at Botanical artists for examples.  Send your work to Class Dojo.

 Practical activity

Using a viewfinder, sketch out an enlargement of a part of your flower and add colour to it using paints, pencil crayons, oil pastels, collage etc. Choose your own colour scheme for your flower to make it different from the original. What are the complimentary colours opposite to your original flower? Could you use a mixture of warm and cool colours to make it bright and eye catching? You could divide your image into sections and change your colour scheme within each one, or create multiple images, changing the colours each time. Look at Georgia O’Keeffe/ Claude Monet for examples.  Send your work to Class Dojo.

Re-draw your original sketch or use tracing paper to recreate the same outline. Add a variety of patterns within the outline of your flower, as detailed as you like. Maybe try to change the directions of your patterns or only use one shape and overlap it/ rotate it/ flip it to create something new. Your patterns can be random and different on each section of the flower, follow the outline of your flower, or start in the centre and grow outwards (radial) Add colour to your design to make it as bold and eye catching as you can. Look at Gustav Klimt, Paul Clee, Mandalas/ Surface Patter/ Doodle art for examples.  Send your work to Class Dojo

Practical activity

Using found items around your home/ garden/ whilst out on a walk, collect items to create a sculpture of your chosen natural object. Layer/ arrange/ position your materials to represent your focus subject as best you can and add flashes of colour where possible. Focus on the size, shape and proportion of your composition so that you can recreate it as accurately and realistic as possible. You could use smaller flowers, leaves, grass, twigs, stones, fabric, plastic bottles, cans, socks, pens/pencils etc. to recreate your natural image and it can be either 2D or 3D. For more of a challenge, you could try to include patterns in the background to make your piece even more exciting and interesting.  Send your pictures of your work to Class Dojo.
