SAFER INTERNET DAY

5th February 2018

Dear Parent/Carer

Tuesday 6th February is Safer Internet Day, and Grove Academy will be recognising this by dedicating the day to finding out all about keeping safe when using the internet.  During this day, all the children will take part in activities which will explore and promote different aspects of staying safe when using the internet, as well as other issues linked to accessing internet sites.

It is very important that you, as parents and carers, are also confident in knowing that the gaming websites and apps that your children visit and play on regularly are age appropriate.  Some websites aimed at children do allow online conversations which could result in cyberbullying, or have ‘side games’ with inappropriate content relating to violence or ‘gang’ culture.  Other websites do have age restrictions applied to them.  These issues, and more, can be investigated further by visiting informative websites such as internetmatters.org and saferinternet.org.uk.  They offer plenty of advice on a wide range of internet safety issues, and will hopefully give you more confidence to discuss with your child the websites they are accessing, and how they can be safe using them.

The internet is a great invention and one that we wouldn’t be without, but we do want our Grove children to be safe when using it.

Thank you for your continued support.
